Set in the year 2030, the AmaXhosa Nation has taken over the Eastern Cape in an attempt to utilise the land for their own prosperity. Three Khoi descendants and their aging cow are migrating to the Eastern Cape. Drama ensues when they come to Intaba KaNdoda, a poverty-stricken community once ruled by the Khoi chief Ndoda. The Khoi descendants, having heard stories of how chief Ndoda was killed in a land dispute, have come to reclaim what is rightfully theirs- they have come to take the land from the AmaXhosa. Kudu is not only about people reclaiming their land, but also their customs, culture, languages and spirituality. It’s a fight for acknowledgement as existing, not extinct.

Lizelle Kruger : Cape Town Memoirs and Dangerous Liaisons | until 30 Mar 18
Kruger’s large-scale street and landscape works of the Mother City from the 1920s to 1960s form the backdrop to the women who take centre stage in this exhibition. The artist pays tribute to women from every sphere of society: women who participated in dockside liaisons, women who operated the ‘Sugar Houses’, and the imported female slaves – many of whom were housed at the Company Slave Lodge which can still be seen in Adderley Street.

“Over the years I have collected and catalogued a large selection of images from various sources including books, magazines, websites and social media, personal photo archives, and many more. The figures in this body of work were created from fragments of these images, and their compositions reference certain historical paintings motifs.
This creates subjects that seem to be contextualised and somewhat recognisable, yet they passionately attempt to proclaim their own unique identities, despite our pre-conceived notions. This process examines how we impose identities upon others, and subsequently challenges fashionable standards of beauty and sexualisation.”

Iziko Slave Lodge
The Slave Lodge is one of the oldest buildings in Cape Town. The many names of the building over three centuries – Slave Lodge, Government Offices Building, Old Supreme Court, and SA Cultural History Museum – reflect the long and rich history of the building.
Until 28 February 2018 | Through Positive Eyes is an exhibition which builds on the work of South African photographer Gideon Mendel, harnessing the power of the arts to banish HIV stigma.
Iziko South African National Gallery
South Africa’s premier art museum houses outstanding collections of South African, African, British, French, Dutch and Flemish art.
Selections from the Permanent Collection change regularly to enable the museum to have a full programme of temporary exhibitions of paintings, works on paper, photography, sculpture, beadwork, textiles and architecture. Updates of the various exhibitions can be viewed on their web page on bottom right section.
Iziko South African Museum
The South African Museum houses more than one and a half million specimens of scientific importance. The collections now range from fossils almost 700-million years old to insects and fish caught last week. There are also stone tools made by people 120 000 years ago, traditional clothes from the last century, and T-shirts printed yesterday.
The Bo-Kaap Museum, situated in the historic area that became home to many Muslims and freed slaves after the abolition of slavery, showcases local Islamic culture and heritage.
Groot Constantia Manor House with its exhibition of furniture, paintings, textiles, ceramics, brass, and copperware, provides an insight into the life of a successful 18th to late 19th century Cape farmer.
Koopmans-de Wet House
This house museum is furnished as a home for a well-to-do Cape family during the late 18th Century. It houses some of the best pieces of Cape furniture and silver in the country, in addition to a priceless collection of ceramics.
The Iziko Maritime Centre features an overview of shipping in Cape Town, and the earliest existing model of Table Bay harbour, completed in 1885 by prisoners and warders of Breakwater Prison, forms part of the exhibitions.
The Iziko Planetarium and Digital Dome, one of only 6 fully fledged planetaria on the African Continent, brings the most advanced digital visualisation technology to Cape Town.
Rust en Vreugd was built as a home for Willem Cornelis Boers, a high-ranking official of the VOC (Dutch East India Company) known as a fiscal, around 1777–1778.
Social History Centre
After a three-year programme of renovation and extension of the National Mutual Building on Church Square, it was handed back to Iziko during a media preview event held on International Museum Day, 18 May 2010.

Legend has it that old Rasta on the Roof found this shipwreck in the Old Harbour and turned it into a pub and restaurant called ‘The Thirsty Oyster Tavern’, where, to quote him, ‘home is where the anchor drops’. So why not drop anchor here for a while, crack open that careworn shell and slip into our relaxed and friendly ambiance – whether it be in the cool breezes of summer or by the warm, cosy fires in winter – we have 3 fireplaces to ensure you stay nice and warm.
